ODFW Confirms First Wolf Depredation of 2019

Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife officials have confirmed the first wolf depredation of 2019.  Investigators were called out to a ranch in Jackson County Tuesday, after an owner found an injured five month old calf on private pasture land.  ODFW said the injuries occurred to the 235 pound calf just hours earlier, and the animal was euthanized on site.  An investigation of the carcass revealed more than 100 tooth scrapes on the neck, abdomen, flanks and hindquarters.

While ODFW did not say which pack is believed responsible, the Rogue Pack was recently reported on the property.  This continues the trend reported last year in Oregon, in which four depredations were reported in final three months of 2018.
