When faced with consumer questions over how milk is produced, consider this:

98% of the U.S. fluid milk supply is involved in the National Dairy FARM program, meeting rigorous standards for quality.  Quality animal care; quality environmental stewardship; and quality products for consumers.

“It’s a new day in the dairy industry, we no longer get to just produce milk, we got to convey that social responsibility, so that confidence and that assurance and our customer and consumer base is there," said Emily Yeiser Stepp is the senior director of the National Dairy FARM Program.  "So, again, they can feel really comfortable with what they are purchasing and feel good about it.  That’s the message we’re trying to get across.”

The National Dairy FARM Program involves dairy farmers, cooperatives and processors around the country.  Yeiser Stepp added their goal is to document progress on the nation’s dairy farms, and share that story.

“We within the FARM program, specifically, are letting the cow tell us, what her welfare is, and letting the good management practices that we have for land and for our employee management tell their own story, and so, it’s really allowing for science based research to drive those changes and always continually move us in the right direction.”

She noted the FARM program holds producers to the highest standard of animal care, and environmental and antibiotic stewardship.  Oftentimes, documenting the good practices already in place on the farm.  To learn more about the National Dairy FARM program check out National Dairy Farm's Website.
