WSU Oilseed Workshops To Visit Wilbur, Clarkston
Washington State University will hold their first oilseed workshops of 2019 later this month. The first will be on January 23rd in Wilbur, with the second in Clarkston on the 25th. WSU’s Karen Sowers said workshops this year will focus on stand establishment.
“Some people associate that with winter canola only, but I think any crop including winter and spring canola, camelina, whatever your crop maybe, that’s our focus," Sowers said. "So, with that we’ve got general sessions, and breakout sessions, we’ve got equipment companies and manufactures coming in. We’ve got seed company representatives coming in from around the country and Canada.”
Sowers said the sessions will focus on plant growth regulators, weed control, and much more. She added the workshops provide a great opportunity to network with growers to discuss successes and challenges.
“And another highlight is we’ve got the national pollinators and stewardship lead from Syngenta in North Carolina coming. If you hear anything from the news in Canada, is that seed treatments neonicotinoids are going to be phased out in the next two to five years. So were going to hear from Dr. Stabanelie what the story is here in the United States, because that could dramatically affect canola.”
