Based on the latest NASS figures from June 1st, Winter Wheat production in the Northwest is down 1% from this time last year.

 

Winter wheat production in Washington is forecast at 114 million bushels, down 9% from 2018. Harvested area, at 1.65 million acres, unchanged from the previous year. Yield is forecast at 69.0 bushels per acre, up 1.0 bushel from the May 1 forecast but down 7.0 bushels from last year.

 

Oregon winter wheat production is expected to total 40.5 million bushels, down 13% from last year.  Area harvested is expected to total 710,000 acres, up 15,000 acres from the previous year.  NASS expects yield to come in at 57.0 bushels per acre, down 1.0 bushel from the May 1 forecast but down 10.0 bushels from last year.

 

Based on June 1st numbers, winter wheat production in Idaho is forecast at 57.3 million bushels, down 6% from last year. Harvested area, at 690,000 acres, are up 10,000 acres from 2018. Yield is expected to average 83.0 bushels per acre, down 4.0 bushels from the May 1 forecast and down 7.0 bushels from last year.

 

The U.S. winter wheat production is forecast at 1.27 billion bushels, up slightly from the May 1 forecast and up 8% from 2018. Based on June 1 conditions, the U.S. yield is forecast at 50.5 bushels per acre, up 0.2 bushel from last month and up 2.6 bushels from last year.

 

U.S. White Winter wheat production, at 222 million bushels, is down slightly from last month. Of the White Winter production, 22.4 million bushels are Hard White and 199 million bushels are Soft White. Hard Red Winter production, at 794 million bushels, is up 2 percent from last month. Soft Red Winter, at 258 million bushels, is down 2 percent from the May forecast.
