Cherry harvest is in full swing across the Northwest.  And while there’s excitement about another good looking crop, there is reservation as cherry growers enter a second season with a trade war looming over their heads.  As for many commodities, China is one of the largest destinations markets for Northwest cherry growers.

Representative Dan Newhouse continues to call on the trump Administration to strike up a deal opening the Chinese market.  He said while a year of lost opportunities and even lost market share is frustrating, he notes now is not the time to give up.

“The feeling on a lot of producers part is we don’t want this to be for nothing.  We want the situation to be better than it was before.  We don’t want to go through all of this pain for no gain.”

Newhouse said he can say that not only as a Congressman, but also as a grower himself.  He added an improved trade relationship with China will help the U.S. when it comes to trade relationships with other countries, both large and small.
