It’s not just canola that’s growing across the Inland Northwest this time of year.  Karen Sowers says the Pacific Northwest Canola Association continues to grow.  Sowers said, while in an indirect fashion, trade issues remain one of the biggest challenges for growers.

“There’s no tariff on canola, but there is on soybeans, as most people know.  Canola follows soybeans, other oil seeds do as well, and it’s not just canola and soybeans, the PNW Canola association has been urging our producer members and any members to, contact their legislators about that.”

Sowers says the PNW Canola Association is working with the USDA and the U.S. Canola Association to express trade concerns in Washington D.C.  Locally, Sowers said they are working on getting a Montana Canola Commission, which should help with research dollars for the canola growers Northwest wide.

Sowers added they are still looking for members.  If you’d like to join, or if you’d like to learn more about the PNW Canola Association, visit their Facebook Page.
