According to company officials, Zirkle Fruit Co. will close its apple packing operation in Prosser this fall.  The company said they will consolidate Prosser operations with their Selah location.  The move means roughly 300 workers in the lower Yakima Valley will lose their job, starting in October.

The Prosser facility will not close, but rather refocus on the company’s winery operation, and be used to store bulk fruit.  According to the Yakima Herald, the first round of layoffs are expected October 17th.  Additional layoff dates will be announced in the future.

“Maintaining and continually modifying multiple apple packing operations has been a difficult task,” Zirkle said in a press release.
