Unrest is Iran and the heart of hurricane season.  In a typical year these would be the chief factors driving what you pay at your neighborhood station.  But as it has been for most of 2019, China continues to dictate where oil prices go.  Patrick DeHaan with Gasbuddy.com said news over the weekend of additional tariffs on American products, pushed oil prices lower, only to have those prices rebound quickly when President Trump announced talks with China were still on.

At last check, oil prices are around $54 per barrel.

DeHaan added when we transition from summer to fall, oil and fuel prices typically drop, as demand lowers.  He said he does not see that changing even if a trade deal is announced between the U.S. and China.

“What I would say is perhaps prices won’t drop as much, if there is a trade deal with China, but I would still expect plenty of downward movement.  I don’t think that seasonal trend that has been so strong will be replaced a trade deal could certainly limit the scope of the traditional seasonal drop.”

The National average for a gallon of diesel dropped one cent in the past week to $2.94.  As far as those local prices are concerned:

  • $2.96 a gallon in the Tri-Cities
  • $3.05 a gallon in Wenatchee
  • $2.95 a gallon in Quincy
  • $3.09 a gallon in Moses Lake
  • $2.81 a gallon in Pendleton
  • $3.18 a gallon in Walla Walla
  • $2.99 a gallon in Yakima
