The trade agreement in principle with Japan is getting praise across much of farm country.

‘This agreement, we believe, will level the playing field between us and our competitors especially in the red meat sector,” said Ag Undersecretary Greg Ibach.

He noted the deal with Japan should correct what he calls a "tariff differential" which began building up back in up in January of 2017 with the President pulling out of TPP.

“When we didn't move forward with the Trans-Pacific partnership and they signed it with the remaining countries, there was beginning to be a tariff differential not in our favor especially with Australia as one of our big competitors  in that marketplace.”

Ibach added the agreement announced Sunday by President Trump should even up the tariff situation and make U.S. beef much more competitive in the lucrative Japanese market.
