Warm Weather To Start September, But Cooler Temps On The Way

While many consider Labor Day weekend the conclusion to summer, fall does not technical start until September 22^nd this year.  In the meantime the summer temperatures are going to stick around.  Marilyn Lohmann meteorologist with the National Weather Service said it makes sense we’ll see temperatures in the upper 80s and low 90s to start September, since August turned out to be such a warm month.  She noted temperatures across the Inland Northwest were anywhere from two to three degrees above average.

“That’s quite warm coming off of July.  If you remember back to July, we were kind of like ‘wow, this is weird, we’re cooler than normal which does not happen to us in the summer’, we did get those 100 degree days that we really didn’t see during July, we had a couple spells of those to start the month and a few at the end.”

Lohmann said the warm weather will stick around until a pair of systems roll into the area.  The first is expected to land Thursday into Friday, and the second systems hitting the area over the weekend, bringing clouds, cooler temps.

“With another round of showers and thunderstorms and some heavier rains could be noted along the Cascades and in northern Washington.”

Lohmann added thanks to the daylight we’re losing, roughly three minutes a day, temperatures could be cooling soon.
