How does the national spring wheat crop look?

“Showing the crop coming in at 67% good to excellent and 8% very poor to poor that compares relatively favorably, but just below last year's numbers when we finished up 74% good to excellent and 5% very poor to poor,” said USDA Meteorologist, Brad Rippey.  “The spring wheat harvest past the halfway mark during the week September first to reach 55% on that date. 78% is the 5 year average; 86% was the number last year.”

Rippey noted the state with the greatest amount of spring wheat harvested is South Dakota with 79% which compares to the state's 5 year average of 91%.

 

“On the flip side Montana is the lowest 46% complete 5 year average is 76%.”
