The National Association of State Departments of Agriculture will honor Central Washington’s Dan Newhouse at the organization’s annual meeting in Albuquerque, New Mexico this week.  NASDA will honor those the organization says have had a big impact on the farming industry.

Newhouse will be honored with the Ambassador’s Circle Award.  This award is handed out to those that provide exemplary dedication to advancing NASDA’s mission of forging new partnerships for sound Ag policy.  Newhouse was nominated by Washington Director of Agriculture Derek Sandison and Idaho Director of Agriculture Celia Gould.  A third-generation farmer, Congressman Newhouse served as WSDA Director from 2009 to 2013.

Since his election to Congress, NASDA says Newhouse has tirelessly supported their mission through advocacy for ratification of USMCA and other agriculture trade priorities, support of comprehensive immigration reform that supports the agriculture industry, and his dedication to programs that support the needs of America’s farmers and ranchers.

Others that NASDA will horror during their annual meeting include:

  • The 2019 NASDA James A. Graham Award is awarded to Jennifer Trodden, Deputy Commissioner for the New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets.
  • The 2019 NASDA Honor Award for Communications is awarded to Corinne Gould, Assistant Commissioner for Public Affairs for the Tennessee Department of Agriculture.
  • The recipient of the 2019 NASDA Douglass – Irvin Administration Award is Jenifer Gurr, Chief Administrative Officer & Director of Human Resources for the Colorado Department of Agriculture.
  • The 2019 recipient of the NASDA Public-Private Partnership Award is the Iowa Agricultural Water Alliance.

“Congratulations to our 2019 Honor Awards recipients! Our state departments of agriculture are homes to incredibly talented people who often go unrecognized in the world of public service. NASDA’s Honor Awards Program provides our members the opportunity to recognize their staff for their work on a national stage,” said NASDA President and New Mexico Secretary of Agriculture Jeff Witte. “We’re also thrilled that our awards program has expanded in recent years to highlight our external ambassadors, like Congressman Newhouse, and public-private partnerships that advance our work in the states.”
