Earlier this week, Representative Dan Newhouse joined New Mexico’s Xochitl Torres Small to introduce the Rural Material and Obstetric Modernization of Services Act; better known as the MOMS Act.  Newhouse said House Resolution 42-43 aims to improve healthcare access in a variety of ways.

“Collecting data on maternal morbidity for rural residents and minorities that will allow us to address those alarmingly high rates.  Also, we’ll create a rural obstetrics network to help providers collaborate and reach a larger area of patients.”

 

Newhouse added the legislation will also help expand training for doctors, nurses and others in the medical field.

 

“I’m hopeful that this will be a great first step toward improving healthcare access for women and families across Central Washington.”

 

The bill was also cosponsored by representatives Abby Finkenauer of Iowa, Bob Latta of Ohio, Ben Ray Luján of New Mexico, and Tom Cole of Oklahoma.
