The Washington state Department of Agriculture announced this week two Ag groups will receive grant money for non-lethal wolf deterrent efforts.

The Cattle Producers of Washington will receive $144,908 for a project that involves using conflict specialists to address wolf issues in Ferry, Stevens, Pend Oreille and Okanogan counties.  Meanwhile the non-profit Northeast Washington Wolf-Cattle Collaborative will receive $189,492 for a project that will continue an effort to improve the performance and use of range riders as a deterrents.  The Collaborative plans to work on outreach to inform the non-ranching community about the depredation issue.

“The legislature authorized the $352,000 for these two grants, and then another $80,000 for the Sheriff’s Departments in Stevens and Ferry counties,” said Chris McGann with WSDA.
