The Northwest, and the national agriculture community continues to look forward to an expanded USDA research facility in Pullman.  This joint effort between Washington State University and the ARS, will benefit a variety of local commodities, including wheat.  Washington Association of Wheat Growers Executive Director Michelle Hennings said there’s a great deal of research they would like to see accomplished, specifically targeting Falling Numbers.

“It would also help with drought tolerance and also pests, those things that need to be worked out for the farmers so they can have a higher quality crop.  And to have such a research facility come to Washington State is amazing because we will have the best of the best here.”

ARS funds more than 800 research projects annually at nearly 100 research locations, many of them jointly operated by universities.  The hope is construction on the new facility in Pullman will start in early 2021.
