Hundreds of cattle producers rallied recently, calling on President Trump to fire Ag Secretary Sonny Perdue.  Joe Maxwell is the Executive Director for Organization For Competitive Markets.  Maxwell said more and more commodity groups feel Perdue does not have their best interest at heart.

“As a matter of fact , many of the folks came after reading comments  about what Secretary Perdue told the dairy producers.  That is in America the big gets bigger, and the small get out.  Many did call on the firing of Secretary Perdue.  That is OCM’s position.”

Perdue has said he’s clarified the intent of those comments made recently in Wisconsin.  Maxwell added Perdue needs to go because of his continual support of Packers at the expense of livestock producers.

“He has failed America’s family farmers and ranchers he continues to side with the big packers.  We have evidence of his decisions that go against us as farmers.  And then, just his callousness against those he should be representing, is enough to say enough.”

Maxwell said both the President and the USDA need to address the market concentration problem or many cattle producers will go out of business.
