New Washington Wheat Ambassadors Announced

The Washington Association of Wheat Growers has announced the wheat ambassadors for the upcoming school year:  Spencer Miller of Ritzville and Gunner Aune of LaCrosse.

Spencer is the son of Mike and Marci Miller. The multi-generational family farm is located outside of Ritzville. Spencer has maintained a high scholastic achievement throughout high school and has been active in numerous school and community activities. In addition to being a varsity athlete in football and baseball, Spencer is active in FFA, Honor Society, and is a Link Crew volunteer and a Washington Aerospace Scholar. Spencer plans to continue his education at a university to study mechanical engineering and to eventually serve in the United States Army before possibly returning to the family farm.

Gunnar is the son of Leonard and Stacy Aune and their multi-generation family farm is near LaCrosse. Gunnar has

maintained a strong grade point average at Colfax High School. He also excels out of the classroom by being very active in school and community activities. His interests include being involved in three varsity sports, FFA, ASB President, Honor Society member, and serves on the WIAA LEAP Committee. Gunnar has a passion for the agriculture industry, both in its diversity and advancing technology, and plans on attending a university to eventually become an Agriculture/BioSystems Engineer.

Miller and Aune were selected after a written application process that included submitting a short introductory video. The ambassadors will represent Washington wheat farmers at various civic and community events and will also participate in an advocacy trip to Olympia with Washington Association of Wheat Growers’ (WAWG) leaders. In addition, the ambassadors will each receive a scholarship from the Washington Wheat Foundation.

Applications for the 2020-21 Washington Wheat Ambassador Program will be available this summer. Students who will be entering their senior year of high school are eligible to apply. The program offers leadership and advocacy opportunities within the wheat industry, and scholarships are also available.
