U.S. Officials Working To Crack Down On Fentanyl Trafficking

White House Drug Czar Jim Carroll, says the amount of the synthetic opioid, Fentanyl, being mailed from China to the United States has decreased.  But the news is not all good.

“It’s still getting here, so we’re working hard with our law enforcement, God bless them, to stop the flow coming here,” Carroll noted.  “But I do believe the Chinese government is taking this very seriously.”

Carroll recently led a US delegation to China to discuss the issue.

“They’re working out, you know, how they’re prosecuting, how they’re investigating this. China’s a big country and so there’s a lot of work to do, but I am encouraged by what happened during that trip.”

At the same time, he adds that US authorities continue to go after people who are bringing drugs in to the country.  Adding for the traffickers, “Their disease is the disease of greed and those folks we will pursue relentlessly while we’re getting more folks in to treatment.”

Fentanyl ten times more potent than heroin.
