National Winter Wheat Emergence Improved Year-Over-Year
When it comes to the national winter wheat pictures, the USDA is emergence is now at 87%, which is improved from last year's 85% at this time, but off the five-year average of 90%. USDA Meteorologist, Brad Rippey, said there are some concerns nationwide.
"#1 in the southern plains we have some drought issues there. Texas wheat; 75% emerged, five year averages is 80%," Rippey noted. "And #2 in the north we've had obviously a cold November and that has hampered emergence."
Rippey added we've seen issues in Montana and Michigan.
"Winter wheat condition after sliding for several weeks has stabilized no 52% good to excellent, 14% very poor to poor no change from last week."
Rippey continued that on the national level, this year's winter wheat is rated lower year-over-year.
