If there's one thing organic farmers in this country can agree on, it's the importance of treating the soil right.

"We believe that soil health is the foundation of our farm and our business," said Ben Whalen who runs at organic vegetable and flower farm in Maine.

"The soil is the life of our business and we've got to take care of it." added Jeremy Brown, who runs an organic cotton farm in Texas.

Both organic producers recently spoke before a House subcommittee hearing.  In addition, Jeff Huckaby of Grimmway Farms, that crop rotation helps immensely.

"We've learned through organic farming that crop rotation, building your soil, having the healthiest soils out there is significantly more important that what we've felt originally. And it's lets produce the highest quality. Like I said, we actually get higher yields on a lot of our organic crops that we do conventionally."

Grimmway is the largest organic vegetable producer in the United States.
