Despite cold temperatures and a light drizzle, Tuesday was a busy day in Toppenish.  The Washington state Beef Commission and 2nd Harvest teamed up to offer Mobile Markets to provide beef as well as other fresh food to some of the lower Yakima Valley’s most vulnerable.  Agri Beef’s Brenda Metzgar said they enjoy the opportunity to help their neighbors.

“We do a lot with our community.  We have over 1,000 employees working at Washington Beef and everyone of them lives in this community, so it’s our pleasure to work with the community and to pass out this food and this great meat that we have.”

In addition to providing a 2.5 pound roast, those that attended Tuesday’s Mobile Market also picked up hash browns, carrots, onions, potatoes, crackers and more.  Metzgar said hunger is an issue the farm community must address.

“Right here in the Valley, one in eight struggle to put food on the table every night, and one in five children go to bed hungry in this area," Metzgar added. "So, it’s our pleasure to give what we have.  We just really have a great affiliation with Toppenish and the surrounding communities, and it’s our pleasure.”

The Mobile Markets will move north over the next couple of days:

Yakima – Wednesday December 11th, 12 p.m. to 2 p.m., Yakima State Fair Park, 1301 South Fair Ave.

Ellensburg – Friday December 13th, 12 p.m. to 2 p.m., FISH Community Food Bank, 804 Elmview Rd.
