Could Othello soon become home to the world’s largest potato processor?

McCain Foods is currently expanding their existing facility to increase the number of potatoes that can be processed.  The expansion is reportedly taking place to keep up with demand from McDonald’s after the Golden Arches expanded its all day breakfast menu.

According to Capital Press, when the expanded facility opens in 2021, McCain will have the ability to produce between 1.3-1.4 billion pounds of frozen potato products.  According to Washington state Potato Commission when the new facility expansion is up and running, 11,000 additional acres of spuds will be needed.
