Lost in all the excitement about the U.S. and China signing a Phase One trade agreement as well as the upcoming senate vote on USMCA is another trade agreement that President Trump calls, "A game changer for American farmers and ranchers."  It's the new trade agreement with Japan, which went into effect January 1st.

“The Japan market should provide the kind of access that competitors are getting in Japan and we should see an increase in exports of  fresh and frozen beef and pork in particular but also wheat products and barley and for more of our specialty fruit and nut varsities we're likely to have addition access in to Japan for those,” said USDA Chief Economist, Rob Johansson.

He added the U.S. lost market shares in Japan for products like meats and wheat when the Trump Administration exited TPP, but he thinks the U.S. will re-gain that market as new agreement with Japan kicks in.
