The public comment period is underway for the interim final rule of the Environmental Quality Incentive Program; comments will be accepted through February 18th.  EQIP has been updated for the 2018 Farm Bill, hence the need for public comment.

The question remains: What should producers and landowners expect the next deadline for EQIP applications?

“They haven't announced when the sign up; deadline will be but folks that are interested can go in and apply and then states will kind of hold those till the deadline passes and they'll be batched and scored,” said NRCS Chief Matthew Lohr.  “Some states do it once a year, some states do it several times a year depending on the activity.”

State-specific sign-up periods are expected to be announced in the coming weeks though.  And the Chief emphasizes that you can sign up for EQIP every day of the year by submitting applications at the local NRCS field office.  To learn more about EQIP, or to make your thoughts known, Click Here.
