This week has the potential to be a big week for American Ag.  The Senate could vote on USMCA, assuming the impeachment trial of President Trump does not get in the way.  And leaders from China are in Washington D.C. to sign the Phase One agreement between the two economies.  Central Washington’s Dan Newhouse said Phase One will benefit many in farm country.

“There are a lot of really good things here that could help the Pacific Northwest and the state of Washington.  So, I’m excited about our two countries coming together and demonstrating we can, even though these issues are tough, and complicated, that we can make progress.”

Newhouse added once Phase One is implemented, it will mean greater markets access, thus, more opportunities for American farmers.

“We have the potential for exporting a lot of agricultural products to China.  So we’re going to have to step up our production which is a good thing," Newhouse added.  "And so, I’m excited about the opportunity that could be in store for American agriculture.”
