After 41 years with the Idaho Farm Bureau Federation, 21 of which he served as CEO and Executive Vice President, Rick Keller will retire this summer.

During his time, Farm Bureau membership increased 39 of the 41 years. IFBF now represents 80,635 families, including 14,000 members that are involved with the state’s agricultural industry.

Keller said, much like when he started, Idaho producers are most concerned about heavy regulations.

"We’re seeing thing coming in regarding endangered species, continual threat, a never ending threat on removal of the dams and its impact.  Sage grouse, salmon recovery, bull trout, and then all of the sudden we throw in the mix, trade.”

Keller said those regulations have transitioned from county issues, to state and now to the federal level. He added during his time with Idaho Farm Bureau, the organization has helped producers in a variety of ways. Keller said farmers are good at producing the best food and fiber around, so IFBF is there in other ways.

“There were a lot of things that were happening beyond their fence rows, things that would have a major impact upon their organization, or their farms, and they just didn’t have the time to go out and fight the battles and to stay informed and keep engaged," Keller said. "And so, the Farm Bureau was there to help, beyond their fence rows.”

The 65 year old said while he enjoys what he does, it’s time to step away and spend more time with family.
