Wheat in storage across the Northwest reported an 8% year over year increase. According to NASS, wheat stored in all positions in Washington on March 1st hit 86.4 million bushels, down from the 92.3 million reported March 1st of last year. Of-farm stocks were down 10%, while on-farm stocks jumped 53% year over year.

In Oregon, stored wheat totaled 33.5 million bushels, up from 24.2 million bushel from March 2019. NASS said off-farm stocks were up 47%, while on-farm stocks were up 6%.

And in Idaho, wheat in storage increased from 48.9 million bushels to 58.1 million bushel on March 1st. Off-farm stocks in the Gem State were up 20%, while on-farm stocks were up 17% year over year.

Nationally, wheat in storage hit 1.41 billion bushels, down from 1.59 billion reported on March 1st, 2019.  Off-farm stocks were down 12%, while on-farm stocks were down 8% compared to the previous year.

When it comes to barley, crop in storage in Washington totaled 5.15 million bushels, up from 3.55 million bushels a year ago. Off-farm stocks were up 34%, while on-farm stocks were up 137% compared to the previous year.

In Idaho, barley stocks in storage totaled 34.4 million bushels on March 1st, 2020, down from 35.1 million bushels a year ago.  Off-farm stocks were down 12%, while on-farm stocks were up 16%.

In Oregon, stored barley totaled 856,000 bushels, up from 762,000 bushels a year ago.  Off-farm stocks were up 16%, while on-farm stocks were up 4% compared to the previous year.

Nationally, barley stored in all positions totaled 115 million bushels, down from 121 million bushels a year ago. Off-farm stocks were down 15%, while on-farm stocks were up 12% compared to the previous year.

When it comes to oats in storage, Idaho’s off-farm numbers totaled 124,000 bushels, down from 100,000 bushels a year ago. In Washington, oats stored in off-farm locations totaled 71,000 bushels, up from 62,000 bushels the previous year. Nationally, stored oats totaled 47.1 million bushels, down from 50.3 million bushels a year ago. Off-farm stocks were down 6%, while on-farm stocks were also down 6% compared to the previous year.
