The USDA has added two states to its pilot program allowing food-stamp recipients to use their benefits to make purchases online.

"We're also expanding our online food-purchasing pilot to nearly 5 million SNAP recipients in Arizona and California," said Ag Secretary Sonny Perdue. "This enables people to purchase food online, going a long way in helping Americans to follow the CDC social-distancing guidelines, and hopefully slowing the spread of the Coronavirus."

The SNAP online pilot program is currently operational in Washington, Oregon, Alabama, Iowa, Nebraska and New York. The USDA has templates online for other states who want to apply for the program.

"This application yesterday was received sometime during the day from Arizona and approved last evening that way."

Perdue stressed that USDA employees are working around the clock to process applications.
