Commodities across the country are hurting because of the coronavirus pandemic. And while the federal government is prepared to spend billions to help farmers and producers through this unprecedented time, many are concerned it won’t be enough.

Central Washington Representative Dan Newhouse recently said the biggest question that will determine the health of the Ag economy is how much longer will the American economy be closed.

“That’s why I think it’s important we do everything we can to get the economy back up and running, as soon as possible.  That’s the best way, the only way that we’re really going to find relief.  We just can’t afford to prop up every single industry in the country, we can to a certain extent on a limited basis, but for any long amount of time, that’s not going to be something that I think is going to be very likely.”

Newhouse noted the American people have done a good job with social distancing, which has helped the number of COVID-19 cases. And he’s encouraging the American people to keep it up.
