While Sporadic Recent Showers Have Benefits Soil Moisture

The saying across the Northwest during the spring months, if you don’t like the weather, just wait five minutes this will change. This year, that saying is very true. The region has seen isolated rain showers, and even thunderstorms over the past week. Marilyn Lohmann with the National Weather Service said while some of those systems have moved very quickly, and the showers have been all over the map, areas that have seen showers have benefited.

“That has helped a lot of the crops and I think the soil moisture, we see a lot of the ground covers rebounding, and now if we can just get it timed right, we’ll be doing good.”

Lohmann said temperatures have been on par with where they should be this time of year.

“Our daytime temperatures have been actually about anywhere between two degrees to four degrees below normal, but then our overnight lows have been about two to four degrees above normal.  So, when you add it all together and average it over the week, it come of comes out near normal.”

Lohmann said we’ll see another system roll into the area Thursday, bringing more isolated showers. But as we look to Memorial Day Monday, she expects sunnier weather and dryer weather to move in.
