Winter Wheat Headings Slightly Ahead Of 2019 Numbers

When taking a look at winter wheat heading numbers nationwide, " [It's] nearly complete nationally, 95%. One point behind the 5 year average but three percentage points ahead of this time a year ago," said USDA meteorologist Brad Rippey.

When transitioning over to winter wheat harvesting, "[It's] all over the place. Quite a bit of progress in the south no harvest yet in the north. National number is 29% harvested. Three percentage points ahead of the five year average 26% and more than twice last year's number, 13% harvested on June 2st, 2019."

Rippey added the condition numbers nationwide are mostly relatively steady.

"52% good to excellent up two points from last week, 17% very poor to poor that is down two points. but unfortunately that doesn't change the fact that a lot of the harm has been done. Freeze and drought related damage across the southern half of the great plains."
