With the cherry harvest well underway and pear harvest set to start next month, members of the tree fruit industry say Northwest producers have grown a great crop. Jon DeVaney, President of the Washington state Tree Fruit Association said despite smaller volume, it looks like a good, marketable pear and apple crop this year.

“The unusual weather this spring has reduced the total somewhat, but one of the things that we have going for us is this probably the best place in the world to grow fruit, and we do it extremely well.  And we maintain a very high standard of quality and consistency, in that we’re shipping out our best product.  So if you see Washington apples, pears or cherries, on your super market shelf you know you’re going to get a top notch piece of fruit.”

While smaller than last year’s harvest, the 2020 cherry crop is right in line with the five year average.
