Winter Wheat Harvest Moves To The Northwest

We've reached the half way point of winter wheat harvest nationally.

"Reaching 56% completion by July 5th. One point ahead of the 5 year average and substantially ahead of last year's 42%," said USDA Meteorologist, Brad Rippey. He added at this point Oklahoma is the first major production state to wrap up harvest.

"And just in the last week we saw the first few fields, 1% harvest completion in Idaho as well as Washington state so the harvest getting under way in the Northwest. We still don't see any harvest underway yet in Michigan as well as Montana."

And when it comes to the condition of this year's crop, Rippey said the USDA is reporting 51% good to excellent and 17% very poor to poor. That, he added represents a fairly large drop from where the 2019 crop wrapped up, with 64% of the winter wheat crop good to excellent and just 10% very poor to poor.
