The USDA announced this week it is moving forward with a third round of the Farmers to Families Food Box Program.

"We're on our third traunch beginning here the first of August there. We've done two; one was in May and June, the other was June and July and now we'll do one through really probably October."

Ag Secretary, Sonny Perdue recently talked about the impact the program is having on the farm economy and Americans in need during a recent visit in North Carolina.

"You can there in there quality products. This is first line products this isn't throw-away food."

The USDA's Farmers to Families Food Box Program provides boxes of produce, dairy, or meat products, families can take home.

"Usually these kind of procurement and contracting results take 12 to 18 months in the federal government," Perdue added. "Really from the time we see the total of bag and boxes three weeks, that's unheard of."
