While President Trump trails former Vice President Joe Biden in a majority of election polls, farmer support for Trump remains strong. A recent Pulse Poll from Farm Journal shows 82% of the more than 1,500 farmer respondents say they would vote for President Trump if the election were held today. Meanwhile, 13% say they would vote for Biden, while 5% remain undecided.

Farm Journal conducted a second poll after Biden announced Kamala Harris as his running mate, where just 9% of respondents say Harris would make them more likely to vote for Biden. Farm Journal said President Trump has enjoyed steady support in the Pulse Poll with his approval rating remaining in a range between 75%-80% for the past year.

There’s been much discussion during the Democratic National Convention this week how the party needs to engage with rural America. Former Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack has pleaded to the party since 2016 to do more to engage with rural voters.
