For the first time in the 120 year history of the College, a woman is the dean at Washington State University’s College of Veterinary Medicine. Dori Borjesson started her new role just a few weeks ago, and says she excited about what the future holds. She noted she’s already looking forward to better involving Extension into their programing.

“I’ve talked with leaders about new initiatives in public health that are really big at Davis and big here as well.  I’m excited about that.  As well as some of the clinical programs.  And of course we have a very big One Health program at UC-Davis as well, and here the [Paul G.] Allen School for Global Animal Health is really very exciting.”

Borjesson added she’s also very interested in finding new ways to improve research and teaching.

“Some of our education programs and our clinical programs for both our undergraduate or graduate and our professional students at the college, we have all three of those here at the college, which makes Washington State University really unusual.  But, I think there’s a lot of potential overlap there in programs for clinical rotations, for disease investigations.”

Borjesson comes to Pullman from the University of California Davis, where she served in a variety of leadership roles.

When it comes to being the first female dean for the college, Borjesson said she was surprised how impactful the move has been for others not only at WSU but in the veterinary profession as a whole.
