The 2020 edition of the U.S. Forest Service's Resource Planning Act Assessment is due out soon.

"Recurring assessment of the current status, past trends, and projected futures of the nation's renewable resources," noted Claire O'Dea of the U.S. Forest Service. He added specific categories are covered in sub-reports under the RPA umbrella, including a recently released document on trends, and forest land use and forest cover.

"We saw an increase in forest land use and those are areas that are identified for forest purposes. Forest land cover, is where on the landscape we are actually seeing forest. We actually saw deceases in forest land cover."

With those changed occurring due to natural disturbances such as wildfires. The RPA Assessment is used by policy-makers and land managers as a planning tool based on both the trends and projections offered in the various reports.
