The deadline is approaching for farmers and ranchers to apply for USDA's Coronavirus Food Assistance Program. Ag Secretary Sonny Perdue recently told the National Association of State Directors of Agriculture the first $16 billion was used for direct payments to help farmers struggling during the pandemic.

"And we want to get that money out quickly. And that money really went through April 15th for the damages incurred in the first quarter essentially there."

For producers of more than 160 commodities, the deadline to apply is September 11, 2020.

"Through this entire process we've tried to listen to our producers and adding additional commodities to what's being covered," Perdue continued. "As I indicated we're gearing up to announce CFAP round two; which will incorporate more of the feedback and make a program that works best for the people who truly need it."
