Cornell’s College of Agriculture and Life Sciences announced last week the release of three new apple varieties. NY56, NY73 and NY109, will be marketed as Cordera, Pink Luster and Firecracker, respectively.

School officials say as an open-release orchards across the U.S. will be able to grow the new varieties without licensing exclusivity, giving growers a competitive edge by allowing them to replace older apples with what today’s consumers want — crunch, complexity and a new twist on an American classic.

With the addition of these varieties, Cornell has released more than 70 apple varieties since 1880. Visit Cornell's Website to learn more about the varieties, check out PNWAg.net, we’ll have more for you there.
