The USDA's Food Safety and Inspection Service has extended the public comment period for its work on reducing salmonella in the meat, poultry, and processed egg products.

"With the expectation is that we change when new information becomes available and that's one of the reasons we have this meeting we don't want to stay in the same old rut in the same old place, just because we've always done it that way."

USDA Deputy Undersecretary for Food Safety, Mindy Brashears, said public comments will be accepted now through October 16th. And she stress FSIS wants to hear from you.

"I hope that you will consider our strategy and think about what you can share to help us reach our destination," Brashears continued. "Our collective goal in reducing food born salmonella illnesses."
