Newhouse: CFAP2 Funds Critical For Future Of Ag Industry

Many Northwest producers will benefit from the expanded CFAP funding, CFAP 2. The additional $14 billion, according to the USDA, will help producers who continue to face disruptions and associated costs due to the pandemic. While some have questioned the price tag, Central Washington Representative Dan Newhouse says it’s critical to ensure producers are fiscally as strong as possible, during and after COVID-19.

“So they can continue to produce the necessary food for our country and the rest of the world, after this pandemic passes by,” Newhouse said. “We need to make sure we have a strong agricultural industry moving forward and I think this will help provide that.”

Newhouse added CFAP 2 will be a big help to many across the Northwest, including grapes and wine grapes growers, the wheat industry, apples, potatoes, pears, cherries, blueberries, mint, peppermint growers and many more. He noted the expansion will also provide additional support for dairy and livestock.

Sign up for CFAP 2 funding is underway and runs through December 11st. Producers can apply by contacting their local FSA office.
