For food shoppers, 2020 has been one of those years where almost everything at the local grocery store moved up in price. In her latest food price forecast for the entire year, USDA Economist, Caroline Shelley, said there's only one food category where prices may not increase from 2019 to 2020; fresh fruit.

Shelley said, as the U.S. started the month fresh fruit prices averaged roughly 1.4% less than this time last year.

"However the price of fruit has been going up the past few months so for example this past month it was it went up 1.4%. So even thought we've been running negative as far as average it's very possible that if fruit continues to increase in price through the rest of 2020 we might see an increase."

Which, if that takes place, it would leave no foods selling for an average price less than what was reported last year.
