Late last month, several federal agencies, including the Army Corp of Engineers, Bureau of Reclamation and BPA signed an Environmental Impact Statement keeping the four lower Snake River dams in place. Last week, several environmental groups announced plans to file a suit against the federal government saying not enough was being done to protect salmon and steelhead at risk by those dams. Earthjustice filed a notice of intent to file a federal lawsuit Thursday on behalf of nearly a dozen environmental and fishing organization saying they want to restore endangered salmon and steelhead in the Snake and Columbia rivers.

September’s EIS was done following a 2016 federal rejection of the federal government's hydropower management plan.
