The Idaho state Department of Agriculture’s annual specialty crop block grant program was much more popular in 2020 compared to just a year earlier. ISDA said 17 different projects were awarded $1.8 million, specifically to help specialty crop growers across the state. The funds from the specialty crop block grant program will be used to promote, market and perform research for the potato, wine grape, onions, dry bean, cherry, apple, hop and nursery industries.

The specialty crop block grant program is funded by the USDA. ISDA reported 29 applications during this year’s program. Since 2009, the state Department of Ag has awarded 150 projects a total of $14.7 million.
