The USDA announced this week it is investing $3.2 million to help 15 agricultural producers across Oregon develop and market value added products.

“These grants will help Oregon agricultural producers grow their businesses and access new markets," said USDA Rural Development state Director John Huffman. "By expanding their operations, these rural businesses will also create jobs and help to improve the local economy."

Rural Development will provide $235,725 in working capital to Kitamura Farm in the eastern portion of the state to expand the sale of its brined and pickled onions. $250,000 will be used to provide working capital to enable Mt. Hood forest Products in Hood River expand its processing, marketing and sales. And $250,000 will go to Wasco’s Sunshine Mountain Vineyard to expand customer base.

Other projects include Uproot Meat in southwestern Oregon, Tillamook County Creamery Association and more.

The funding is being provide through USDA's Value Added Producer Grant Program and is contingent upon the recipients meeting the terms of their grant agreements.
