Precision Agriculture has made some of its greatest improvements and strides in the row-crop realm. Yet there are advances notable in specialty crop farming as well; such as what is dubbed as an intelligent pesticide sprayer system.

"We use a high-speed laser scanning sensor to see, plan, to measure plant size, shape, and leaf density. And then use computer to make decisions on how much spray outputs are needed and then control each individual model on the sprayer to apply chemicals to the locations where needs to go and this only only target plants are sprayed between counties."

USDA researcher Heping Zhu said a collaboration of the Agricultural Research Service and several land-grant universities resulted in 2019 in a market-ready product for orchards, vineyards, and nursery growers followed by upgrades throughout the past year.
