With the new Administration and new Congress starting to take shape, farm country is getting a better idea of what the next two years may look like in Washington D.C. Georgia Democrat David Scott will be the chairman of the House Ag Committee, a move that sits well with Central Washington’s Dan Newhouse.

“[He’s a] longtime friend of Agriculture and has not only been a champion for Ag causes, but also, this is an important thing in my estimation has been very open to working in a bipartisan fashion.  So, I’m optimistic about Ag’s future and how the Agriculture Committee here in the House approaches the challenges that we face.”

Change is also coming on the Republican side as well, as G.T. Thompson of Pennsylvania has been taped to replace retiring Michael Conaway as ranking member in the House Committee. Newhouse said Thompson is strong leader and will be a good fit for farm country.
