The Washington Beef Community is in the central part of the state this week, distributing 2 ½ pound roast to families in need. Melissa DelGadillo, PR Manager at Agribeef said the need is incredible right now, with one in four people facing food insecurity during the pandemic. She pointed out efforts like this are nothing new, since farmers and ranchers have always been about giving back to their communities.

“Protein is hard to come by at foodbanks, and you know that’s our livelihoods.  We believe that helping with protein insecurity and giving back to those in need and providing, you know, a nice meal.  There’s something about a nice roast during the holidays that just makes you feel like its Christmas and the holiday season.  We feel strongly about giving back and, you know, it’s not always about the dollar.”

This week’s donation event is part of the Beef Counts program.

“For the past ten years, we’ve been providing high quality proteins to families throughout Washington," DelGadillo noted. "Something that’s really exciting is this year we’ve reached 2.5 million servings.  So, 2.5 million servings of beef have gone out to our communities in Washington.”

The Beef Counts Mobile Market was in Toppenish Tuesday. They will be at the Yakima State Fair Park Wednesday, and then the Armory Building in Ellensburg Friday.
