Because of the ongoing impact of the coronavirus pandemic, the 2021 Cherry Institute will hold a virtual conference in late January. Washington State University tree fruit specialist, Tianna DuPont, said this year’s event will cover a variety of exciting and important topic, both live and on demand.

"Two important topics that we're going to cover this year are X-Disease and Little Cherry Virus, as well as Cherry Powdery mildew. X Disease has been a really important epidemic in the area so we need to cover management.”

While Cherry Powdery mildew is nothing new, DuPont said there are new fungicide resistance issues they will discuss with growers. She added January’s event will be one of the important resources for growers to get research based information to help them manage orchards this year.

"In addition to our live content, there will also be horticulture updates, marketing information and this is one of the places where we have that horticulture and marketing information where you don't get that in other venues where they're focusing on the pesticides,” DuPont continued.

The 2021 Cherry Institute kicks off at 9 a.m. on January 21st with a 50 minute webinar focused on X-disease and Little Cherry Virus. To learn more, or to register, call (509) 853-3504 or e-mail cherryinstitute@wastatefruit.com
