December comes to an end Thursday, and it will go down as not only warmer than normal and also dryer than normal. All of this while the Northwest is under a La Niña. So, after weeks of very little snow and warm weather, are forecasters backing down from the La Niña long-term forecast.

Marilyn Lohmann with the National Weather Service said despite La Niña being a dud to this point, the long range forecast has not changed.

“As we take a look at the outlook for January, February and into March, its still calling for below normal temperatures and above normal precipitation.  They don’t have anything that’s drawing them off that signal yet, but we’ll have to kind of see that day to day to day weather has been the trickier part.”

Lohmann also pointed out that in La Niña’s past, much of the snow and colder weather hit the area in January and February. Listen to our entire Ag Weather In Depth conversation to hear Lohmann’s top weather stories from 2020.
